Have you
ever questioned the reasons why so many people worship Hollywood celebrities as
an alternative to normal people? If the answer is ""yes"",
you will love this article.
Since films
began (silent films) people's lives were so disconsolate and unexciting and the
stimulation of seeing a ""moving picture"" intrigued the
public and was a new source of amusement. Finally the
""talkies"" came in and this was much more exciting and
thus, ""the celebrity was born!"" Stories were told (even
though the large broadcasters tried to cover it up) about orgies (and there
were some) and the ""fast life"" of such super stars as Fatty
Arbuckle, Lilian Gish, The Barrymore's, etc.. It seemed it was OK for some
celebrities to get away with terrible behavior and since the public couldn't,
it was a release system for some movie-goers. Going to the flicks and watching
different movies can take you away from your personal troubles and lets you sit
in the darkness in a dream-like or hypnotised state. Some movie-goers could
actually fantasize themselves into the character of their favorite actor (or
actress as they were known back then.) It gave promise to some movie-goers and
allowed them to feel they could be anything they wanted to be and that
romanticism was just in sight. It provided mentors (someone to look up too)
when many people in society didn't have anything to hang onto.
Currently most
of our young Hollywood celebrities are a flash in the pan (the odd star does
hold his/her own light, but few do) and they come and go faster than you can
wink your eye. Who was in last month is not the next month. There is alas a
true magic that has been lost regarding celebrities. Now the public (because of
the magazines, Television programs and autobiographies to the paparazzi) have
opened up the insides of most Hollywood celebrities leaving no stone unturned
and taking the mystery away from that particular actor. An excessive amount
knowledge is good for nothing!
We can sit in
the cinema and see horror, murder, cry, laugh and feel very safe. Many can
enjoy the thrill of horror to murder and experience a rush minus the danger of
being involved. Others are romanticists and love to be aroused in the movie and
wishing such as what they are seeing will happen to them.
We mustn't
forget the favourite singers and bands of each decade. Teens don't really ever
alter from one generation to the other and exactly like we did in preceding
generations there are our preferent bands, singers,
""groupies"" and live shows to go too (although I will
acknowledge more so now.) It's enchanting, it's a world teenagers are
transfixed with and marvel about and can only imagine. They want to be part of
it and desire to discover what makes their favorite actor, singer or band tick.
Now, we
recognise that Hollywood celebrities have their own troubles and all the fame
and money can't help them in many aspects of their lives. We've come to know
some have become alcoholics, into narcotics, died from both, and some teenagers
endeavor to immortalize them even after dying. The long and short of it is,
when we change into adults we realize that we can still enjoy the movies, but
have lost the magic of ever wanting to be what an actor is really because we
are smart enough to know with renown and money there comes a toll and that
superstars are born every day and many fall from grace. Actors are only people
like you and I.
